The Creative Process
I find it to be one of life's great ironies. We're so busy doing 'important' things everyday that we don't make time to sit for a family portrait. Yet few possessions are more cherished and enjoyed over time than the portraits of our children and family that we pass from one generation to the next. Step 1 - In-Home Planning and Design Consultation Every portrait begins with a conversation, an exchange of ideas and information between client and artist. You'll see current samples of my portraiture, learn more about the options available to you, ask questions, and discover how you can avoid costly, unwanted surprises. Among the decisions made at this meeting are the date, time and location for your portrait session. Appropriate commission fees are paid at this time. I've found in my 30+ years as a photographic portrait artist that this meeting does so much to ensure your satisfaction that I never schedule a sitting without first personally meeting with my clients. Step 2 - The Portrait Session This step is not quantitative with regard to time spent or number of photographs taken. Session lengths vary depending upon the quantity and ages of the subjects. Plan to spend about two uninterrupted hours at the portrait session. My approach to photographing your family is to ask 'If I had commissioned an artist to create portraits of my family - what would I want to see to choose from? Step 3 - The Selection Appointment This next appointment is scheduled at the conclusion of the portrait session. Images will be viewed at your home using a state-of-the-art presentation. This system allows you to see final size, composition and cropping, and to view each image in great detail. All decision makers should be present and prepared to make final decisions at this appointment. |
